Is Hyper-Reflexia Common in CFS?

By David S. Bell, MD, FAAP

Published in Lyndonville News, September 2001

Question:

Dear Dr. Bell,

Is there ever a +Babinski sign with CFS? How about spasticity and hyperreflexia?

Thanks!

Melinda

Answer:

Dear Melinda,

There should not be a +Babinski, but there is often hyper-reflexia. In my opinion, the worse the hyperreflexia, the worse the CFS. With true spasticity and a +Babinski, another diagnosis such as MS needs to be carefully looked for.

Best of luck.

Dr. Bell
