Food Allergies and Intolerances may complicate the treatment of Orthostatic Intolerance and CFS, because of their contribution to lightheadedness, hives, abdominal pain, and hypotension. Although there has been no research published of food allergies or sensitivities in adolescent CFS and OI, some pediatric clinicians now evaluate their patients for the presence of these conditions, so that every treatable factor is addressed. In addition, researchers recommend that atypical celiac disease (coeliac sprue) be excluded through blood antibody tests before the diagnosis of CFS is made.
